OBITUARY.
Mr Adam Begg, for some 49 years a resident of Anderson's Bay, died1 at his residence on Wednesday. He was 'born .in' the parish of StraitoD, Ayrshire, on August 17.1812; co that, singularly enough, he died on his eighty-sisth birthday. Mr Begg was. for some time stationmaster at Dalkeith for the North British Railway Company. He decided to emigrate, and arrived in Otago in September, 1848, in the ship Blundell. He immediately took up his residence at Anderson's Bay, and, having built a house, proceeded to cultivate his land. He has practically resided on hia-. selection ever since. He took a- keen and intelligent interest in all matters affecting the colony and district;. Ho has been a member of the Road Board and School Committee,, and a trustee of the cemetery. Mr Begg purchased a considerable area of land at HilleDd, where two of his sons carry on farming operations. His other two sons— Mr M. Begg (of OaUden and Begg) and Mr T. Begg—carry on business in Dunedin. He also leaves two daughters—Mrs James jSomerville and Mrs Wilson.
Mrs Catherine Fraser, relict of the l&te Captain. Thomas Fraser, M.L.C.,.died jesterday morning at her residenco, St. David street, after a brief but severe {illness. The deceased lady was well known and greatly respected throughout the colony, having resided for more or less brief periods at Chtistchurch, Wellington, and Auckland since > her-arrival in the colony with her husband in 1858. Of late years she has travelled a good deal, and but recently paid a visit to the-old country. She leaves four 6OD8 —Mr T. A. ■ Eraser (Stock' department), Mr J.F. M. Fraser (Crown prosecutor), Mr Ivan Fraser.(New-South "Wales); ;and:.Mr Christian Fraser. The funeral will take' place in Wellington, where the remains of the deceased lady will be placed alongside those of her late husband in the Hobson street Cemetery. •. /,. ' ~ - ■
