Auckland, August 2. William P. Hamilton,; formerly collector for the Citizens', Life Assurance Company, was charged at the Police Court with stealing 18s 9d, the property of the company. Accused admitted having taken the amount, which was a quarterly premium paid on the policy of one Robert H. Wilson. After hearing evidence Mr Hutchison, S.M., held that there was a reasonable doubt on the facts •as to whether accused's conduct was fraudulent. The information was dismissed. Five similar charges were preferred against accused, who - pleaded not guilty. Mr Mahoney, who prosecuted, said in view of ! his Worship's decision in the first case the prosecution would offer no evidence. The informations were, therefore, dismissed. Accused was discharged.

Wellington, August 2. s The special committee set up by the Wellington Agricultural and Pastoral Associa- | tion to consider the question of future shows passed the following motion: —" That this committee report to the general committee that the result of the canvass for subscribers . make it apparent that it is advisable to wind I up the association."
