UNIVERSITY BOAT RACE.
Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyrisht. London, April 4. At the start of the University Boat Race, Cambridge having won the toss selected the Middlesex side of the river. They got away with the lead, but failed to maintain the advantage for any . distance. A. Clasper'a Oxford had a ha'i-length's lead. The mila was covered in 3min 55sec. The Dark Blues, rowing strongly, gradually forged farther ahead, and shot Hammersmith Bridge with a lead of a clear length, in 7min 20sec. At Chi3wick %ot tha lead was incinased to two lengths, and Barnes Bridge was passed with Oxford three lengths ahead. At this atage Uie Light Blues b^gan to Dhow signs of distress. They, however, madss several gallnat spurtts, bat wer« quits outclassed, aad Oxford" won es,*i!y at the fiuißh. The time for the fnll course was l'Jmin Vimo. At ths Oxford and Cambridge InterUniversity sports Oxford boat Cambridge by livg avtiatu to four. Bevan, of Melbourne, s-ftcmed second place in the Long Jump.
