(From Oor Own Correspondent.)

Wellington, October 13.

Mr Crawford Anderson, the Government candidate who was to stand forthe Bruce seat in opposition to Mr James/Alles, has, it is stated, retired from the contest, and Mr Allen's re-election is practically assured.

I learn that an attempt was recently made to get up a requisition to Mr Cadman asking bim to contest the W*ikato seat at tho comiDg election, but tbe attempt failed. Mr Cadmaa will probably now bs, found standing for Ohinemuri ; aud Mr Lang (Opposition) may be regarded as certain of election for the Waikato seat; .

It is rumoured that during the past few weeks some 200 co-operative labourers have been quietly shifted into the Bay of Plenty Eh-ctorate, no doubt with a view principally to vote for the Government candidate. The men are employed at a place called Gtlatea, which ia somewhat of a wilderness aud out of the way of settlement. .

Some of Sir "Maurice O'Rorke's leading supporters talk of gßttiug up a largely signed requisition asking him to reconsider his decision, he having been already asked by several members of tho sHouse of Representatives to do 80. ,

The parliamentary correspondent of. the Oamsra Mail sfcyn that the general election will take place either the last Tuesday in November (the 24th) or the first Tuesday in December (tbe lit),

Mr J. C. Wason has definitely decided to contest tho Selwyn seat.
