THE CYANIDE PATENT.

(Per United Pkess Association.) Wellington, October 12. Tbe registrar of patents decided this morning that theCassell Company's application to amend the specification must bs refused on the grqund that the specification contained only a claim for the general use of cyanide, and that tho amendment proposed, which was by way of disclaimer, was in effect an attempt to turn this- general use into a special use for dilute solutions only, and the registrar held.that the authorities cited established that where a specification is general, that generality cannot ba turned into a specialty, and chat tbe amendment can only be made, where there is a generality and particularity, by striking out the generality and claiming "particularity. This judgment, if sustained, establishes that tho Cassell Company's specification iv New Zealand cannot be amended by way of disclaimer. Tha Cassell Company have notified that they will appeal to ths Supreme Court against this decision, aud the appeal will be lodged in the morning. Iv tbeae proceedings the Cassell Company were represented by Sir Robert Stout, Mr Quick, aud Dr Findlay. The objectors to the amendment were the Attorneygeneral and Mr George Harper, of Auckland, tbe former being represented by Mr Stafford and Mr 11*11, and the latter by Mr Button, M.H R. The question of costs stood over, pursuant to tbe order of the Supreme Court granting leave to amend, until after the decision of the Supreme Court on the appeal. I
