THE LAMBETH CONFERENCE.

With reference to tho approaching Lambeth Conference,' which it it expected will be attended by most of the New Zealand Anglican bishopt, the Primate (Dr Cowie), in the course of an interview with an Auckland Herald reporter, said:—"l have not yet received from the Archbishop of Canterbury the official notification as to the order of business; but all the bishops hare been asked to suggest any subject oE importance for consideration by the conference. Among the matters that have been suggested is thedesirability of assigning the title-of Archbishop to the primates and metropolitans of the various provinces, and the relation in which primates of colonial provinces stand to the Primate of All England. It has been, for instance, suggested that the bishops of colonial provinces should take an oath of allegiance to the Archbishop of Canterbury. Some of the English bishops seem Jo see ho objection to this, but any such proposal would meet with the strongest opposition in New Zealand, and from many bishops in other parts of the world. It in open to most serious objections. - It is of the utmost importance that the primates of the various provinces should not place themselves under the jurisdiction of the See of Canterbury, though the Archbishop of' Canterbury would always be conceded the primacy of honour. It would be a serions step to give any kind of supremacy to him beyond that of honour."
