OUR VOLUNTEERS.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, — Allow me space in your valuable columns to say a word for our volunteers. I belitve there is a camp to ba held at Easter, and it has been given out to volunteers that there are no more weekly camps to be held; 89 if they cannot attend the Easter camp they will have to leave the volunteers. I was a member of a volunteer company for over nine years, and when I was told of what I have before explained I at once made up my mind to leave, as there is no encouragement for volunteers. I did not see my way clear to leave my work for the three days whenever the Government liked to call out the battalions for camp. I attended the weekV camp at Pelichet Bay under great inconvenience to myself for the sake of qualification. I think it only right that the young men who give their time and attention to volunteering should be encouraged in every way possible. I believe volunteers living out of town and coming to parade by railway should travel free or by Government passes. I know geveral who woold I join but for the discouragement the Government give to volunteers. I trußfc some abler pen than mine will take the matter up.—l am, &c, Dunedin, March 18. Bx-volunteeb.
