, A meeting of the committee of the Dnnedin Jockey Club, held last evening, was attended by the Hon. George M'Lean (in the chair), Messrs Miller, Fleming, Tsggart, Meenant Lintott, Cook, and Gourley.
An application was received from a number ef bookmakers asking the club to charge them • fee for the 'privilege of plying their calling npon the. course.—The application 'was declined.^ xYY... '..:- ■ '.'.''
It was, resolved—" That no bookmakers be admitted to the Anniversary meeting on March 21.:
A number-of persons-reported for betting totalisator odds on the course at the last meeting were disqualified. , ' ■ It was resolved—" Thab the outside totalisator tickets at the Anniversary meeting be issued at 10s each.".
Mr H. Gourley, jiin., was appointed starter.
A protest was received from Mt Johnson •gains, the Stakes being paid to the owner of Stockfish in connection With a match at the course,on Wednesday was considered, when it was resolved—"That tbe parties to the match < cot having sttictly complied With the rules of management as agreed upon by tbem, that the race be drdeted tb be run a.it agaid." • -The !PbbßH>ent repotted that he Uaii interviewed the chairman of the Forbury Land Company, and ..informed him that the club wished the rent (which amounted to £1120 and tho" rates £89': 3s";lid,*iri all £1209 3a -lid perannum) ridhepd,' dr that the club-would give £15,000 , for the property; The ehaumiri promised to' see some members of his board, and had since replied that there was hot the slightest chance of business resulting on anything- like;the figures indicated.—lt was re» solved—''That the presiderit and Messrs Miller and Gourley be appointed a committee to look cut for another course, as the club could not ; continiaß to pay such ah exorbitant rent." .. , THE HAWKE'S BAY MEETING. Nafihe, March 12. Most of the visiting horse, engaged in the races next week are now .here, the latest arrivals being Donald M'Kinnon,' Retribution, and Hop Garden,'from Gisborne. Gipsy Grand has broken down, and is hot likely to start for the Cup or Stakes. Some good work was done on the tracks at Hastings this morning.. The Possible, Mahaki, and Bessie Macartby did a mile and a-half, the Ingomkr mare having the best of the finish. Bonnie Scotland, Tirense, and Triton were treated to an eight-futlong gallop, the firstnamed tailing, off towards the end. Bloodshot, accompanied by Torpina, was rent six furlongs, whioh was done in lmm 21sec, the Stakes candidate having much the better of the trial. ' Acone accomplished two circuits at three-quarter pace, finishing the last two fnrlongs at top, and looking very fit. Armilla, Stepfeldt, Aio, Rip , Van Winkle, Popgun, Searchlight, and others did useful srork.'
