THE ROWING WORLD.

Notes By Auawa.

At the committee meeting of the Otago Rowing Association held last evening, amotion was unanimously carried to the effect that step 3 betaken with the object Of raisibg funds whereby the association would ba enabled to assist the premier crews of this province f» take part in tho New Zealand Championship events.

There is not the slightest doubt that a motion sit-b as the above will stimulate rowing in thin -province. The association recognise the fact it it- essential, if the interest is to be kept up in the sport, that it is necessary that Otago should be represented in the championship events, and, in a libeml-miuded spirit, havo resolved to do what- they can to assist the best crewß in the harbour to go forth and do battle on behalf of their clubs, and, therefore, of their province. It must also have the effect of drawing the clubs closer together, as one and ,all will recogoisH tho fact thab the object is for the general good,-and though very little uncertainty exists as to the crews likely to receive such assistance tbis year, still other clubs will probably cccupy the premier positions next year, and the scheme being now establish?d'witl naturally come in for their beneSt'in their turn, and thus be enabled to race for championship honours, which, without this help, might prove too heavy au outlay for *lietr club to risk, aud the province being unrepresented would naturally suffer in public estimatiou. The association are to be commended for their notion s-nd farseeing policy, and it only remains for the rowing meu of the different clubs to do their best to support any project brought forward, aud thus place the association in a position to carry ont their wishes.

At a general-meeting of the North End Club, held last night, Messrs W. F Young aud J. M'Kenzie were appointed .to vacancies ou the committee. Captain Higgens intimated the attention of Mr S. S. Myers to preseut the club with an eitfht-onred boat, the, announcement being received with cheers. ■ : >
