NOUMEA'S MINERAL ETCHES.
Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. Sydney, February 19.
Mr Price Williams bas returned from Noumea after an inspection of the mineral deposits. He describes New Caledonia as one of Nature's greatest laboratories, abounding in minerals of every kind. Thore is wonderfully rich chrome, nickel, hematite, and iron. Hematite is ussd in tha manufacture of Bessemer steel, and tbe present Eogllsh supplies are drawn chiefly from Spain and Algeria. In New Caledonia, he states, there are enormous quantities of the purest hematite, almost on the water's edge. Mr Williams examined the hematite deposits in Nfdson (N.Z.), and states that the disadvantage there is tbe distance from the sea. He is convinced there is enongh hematite in New Caledonia to supply the Soa-iserd Hemi-phore for ages.
