CHRISTIAN CONVENTION.

The sixth annual Cup Day Convention was held yesterday in the hall at the back of the North Dunedin Presbyterian Church, and was very largely atteuded during all its ■- three sessions, the numbers present ia tbe evening necessitating a removal into the church adjoining, which was kindly lent for the occa-iou, and comfortably filled. The meetings were throughout hearty and the interest evidently deep. A good programme of speakers wo* arranged, nnd the remarks of all thoroughly enjoyed by those present.

The chairman during the morning session was Mr T. Todd, with whom were associated the Revs. R. Taylor (of South Dunedin) and G. Soltau, who took up as tbeir subject, "Christ: the. Gift of God and Life of the Believer.!'

Iv the afsernoon Mr. N. Paterson took the chair, and the speakers were the Rsv. G. Soltau and Mr J. C. Jamie oa. The subject allotted to tbem was "The Holy Spirit: the Gift of God." The magnitude, necessity, and suitability of tbis divine gift were here dwelt upon, and special allusion was made to the purposes for which He is bestowed.

In the evening the Rev. -W. L.. Salter was the first speaker, after Mr J. Wilkinson (the chairman) had introduced the subject. Pastor Soltau again addressed fioae present, and brought to a close a moftwlemn and impressive service, at the end of which a large proportion of those present rose to their feet to evidence their absolute surrender to God for.the acceptance of the twofold divine gift. The Rev. Mr Good then led in prayer.

During tbe course of tbe proceedings the following committee was iipanimously elected for the eusuing yeav : — Revs. D. Borrie, W. L. Salter, W. Layoook, W. Ready, Messrs W. T. Todd, R J. Gairdner, N. Paterson, John lugs, J. Callagbau, L. Laurenson (captain local Salvatiou Army corps), John Wilkinson, Thomas Haslam, aud the secretary (Mr Alfred Sanders, Leith street, Dunklin),

A small but efficient .choir, under tbe leadership of Mr Bruntou, afforded valuable assistance in the singing and rendered . several selections which were very favourably received. The devotional exercises were led by the Revs. Laycook, Sutherland, and Porter. The convention is considered by those present to bave been quite equal to those of previous years not only in numbers, but also in point of interest and actual results. A considerable number of those preseut had come in from the country, and will doubtless carry back witb them to their reepectivo circles good news of the convention.

The B.»v. George Sob an will continue the mission iv the North Dunedin Hall this and to-morrow evening.
