SUICIDE AT ROSLYN.

An inquest on the body of William Taylor was held before Mr Coroner Carew at the residence of the deceased, Roslyn, on the 3rd in«t.

William Kaye, en employee at the Roslyn Woollen Mills, deposed that he had known the deceased for about H years. Deceased was born at Glasgow, and had been about 15 years in the colony. He was a BiDgle man, and about 44 years of ago. He had very steady employment as a yarn trundlor at the Roslyn Woollen Mills, and resided by himself. Witness last saw him alive on Thursday last. They came home from the mills together at 7 p.m. Witneas worked with him that day and noticed that ho seemed to be despondent, but he was frequently that way. Deceased never hinted at suicide, and witoes3 had not the least suspicion of it. He ought to have been at work on Friday morning, bnt he did nob put in an appearance. Witness went to bis bouse that night, but found it locked up. Ha thought it possible that deceased might have gone away somewhere. He went to the house again on Saturday morning, and at dinner time he got & ladder and looked into the house, bat could not see him. On Snnday morning he again visited the bouse, and at the suggestion of Mr Auld he made a report with regard to the deceased to Constable Miller. When the constable arrived at the house Mr Auld broke open the door, and they saw the deceased's body hanging. John Ovens, a lad nine years of age, who delivered milk tj the deceased on Friday morning, stated that the deceased then bade him good morning. He went to the house' the next ' morning and called out, bnt, gettingno answer, he thought the deceased was away. .Constable Miller deposed that deceased was found hanging from a trap-door of the ceiling of his bedroom. Witness looked in a box,in the bouse and found a banking account book of the Mills' Savings Bank, which showed thafc deceased had £100 to bis credit. There was also a Post Office Sayings Bank book showing £188 3i 8d to his credit; £4 in note?, and a half sovereign. The jury returned* verdict~to the effect that the deceased hanged himself-while temporarily insane.
