The Admiral and Leeway have been scratched for the Metropolitan Stakes,, and Dewn, Parisienne, Mail, and Leeway for the Epsom Handicap.
A Wellington telegram states thot tha president of the Wellington ; Trotting Club (Mr Crawford) has devised a system to prevent tbe "ringing io" of trotters. Ho proposes to brand maiden trotters by tattooing the gums. A registered code of the marks would ba kept, aud would thus, mako clear the identification of a horse. The system would be compar-tively painless as agaiust fire-branding, and any tampering with brands would render the horse liable to disqualification for life. In the face of so much " ringing in" beiug resorted to lalely>. some such remedy is advisable. The Wairarapa Trotting Club is practically defunct, and the Johnson ville Club is also about to bo Wound-up. • Our Lawrence correspondent writes:— "The aunual meeting of the Tuapeka Jockey Club took plica last Friday evening, when the annual report and balance, sheet were submitted ; but as there appears to have been some informality.-as fo tha proceedings of the meeting, I hnve been unable to get particulars. I am informed, the president" (Mr H. Craig), having received a protest regarding the legality of the proceedings, ' intends calling another meeting.":'.:'
