DEATH OF MR HEADER WOOD.

Reader Giteon Wood diad~to-night; aged 74. .Educated at the MertAant-Taylors' School, London, he' was broughty up^ as an architect, and came to the colony in 1844.: He. was made lieutenant of the volunteer artillery nost year, and was iv she disastrous -engage-' mentat Ohaeawai, whan: an atempt was made to storm HekeV pah on the lst July. Towards the close-of 1864 he 'visited EuglaDd and' negotiated, the flo-ating of one million of the loan: He resigned his seat in 1855, bnt was again- electtd in 1870, and opposed Sit J. Vogel's pubjic works policy. ■ In 1878 be again viaitsd Bngland,',and oa his return was elected to represent Waitematsp,. Iv 1871 Mr Wood carried-- resolution io abolish civil service pensions.; Of iate .-years ha has lived iv retirement. He leaves'; a widow and sou and two grandchildren.
