Sir Babeirt Stout- appears for Jewitt, and Mr Wilford for Kennedy;' On the apphc&tioa of both counsel, the Chief Justice agreed to try the prisoners /sepa'rat-jy,, the Crown offering no i.objection. It' was dt^ided to try KeDnedy first. I Two witnessea, who wero present whau ths row" occurred, sworo; positively that Kennsdy did not throw tha lamp, while -one of swore that' ho saw Jewitt .threw it. 'The evidence was rather' conflicting in character: No etidence was,called for tbo de-fchce, counsel InYing eferesis on the. f ant that it had been deposed that at the moment the: lamp was thrown afc the unfortunate women the prisoner was Bfrugsli_g on the floor with Wilson. The jury after a-short retirement found /averdict of " Not gnilty."
