GOLF.

The Ofcago Golf Club held a Bogey foursome competition over the links abßo.lyn On Saturday afternoon. The green was in lirst-class order, and the weather all that could be desired, although a bitter Wind prevailed towards sunset. The match was played under handicap, and by holes, nofc strokes. Partners were drawn from two lists, so as to give the younger golfers an opportunity of playing along with more experienced 'men. Fourteen couples started to- try their skill against " Colonel Bogey," a phantom who plays from scratch, and who ia credited with.-.a certain ecorc for each hole. The colonel proved too strong for most of bis opponents, even though he gave them odds of.frbm 7to 16 strokes; but ib must be remembered that he is »3 superior to the average golfer as an angel is supposed to be to the average human being. He never misse^ a drive, nor foozles an approach, nor cuts up the turf, nor throws away a 12in "putt." And he has absolute command over his temper—a quality necessary to perfection in golf as in everything else. The first place was won by Messrs G. Todd, jun., aud F. Mollaad (9 strokes), who beat the scratch player by 5 •holes. Messrs H. MacNeil, jun.. and T. A Hunter (8 strokes) tied with Messrs *.. Leitch andE. R. Boddington (7 strokes) for second p'.ace, with two holes to tho good. They wore closely followed by.Messrs J. O. K-ttl- and H. D. Stronach (9 strokes), who stood one up. The rest of the field went dos7h before the victorious colonel.
