TRADES AND LABOUR.
UNEMPLOYED RELIEF ASSOCIATION. The Works Committee of the Unemployed Relief Association were occupied during tha whole of yesterday at tho Town Hall selecting men for the relief works. Those present were Messrs R. Chisholm (chairman), C. Hayne*, A. Bart, T. Brown, and A. Bathffate. Some 60 men were selected. A projeoted visit to the Town Belt was postponed, the meeting lasting from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. The following subscriptions have been lecsived:—Dnndsu street Primitive Methodist Church, £5; Si;. Paul's Cathedral, £3 lls lOd ; collected by Mt, Boddinfjton, £2 lls; W. G. Qeddef, £1 Is ;—total auwnnt collected up to date, £2057.
Vv rELMNQTON, July 19. At last night's msetiDg of tho Trades Council a resolution was passed heartily approving of the action of the Dunodin City Council in passing a resolution to the effect that in all future contracts the person or firm tendering shall undertake to pay all the workmen, whether artisans or labourers, tho rate of wages current in the district, and regard eight hours as the working day for which such wages shall bo paid.
