THURSDAY, JULY 4. The House met at 2.30 p.m. SIR GEOEGE GIIEV. The SPEAKER statod that he had received a cablegram from Sir G. Grey as follows:— "Letterof resignation posted. Should reach colony 28th July. Being incapacitated by illuees, I hereby resign my seat as one cf the representatives for Auckland. Witness, W. B. Perceval." The Hon. Mr SEDDON stated that he had also received a cablegram from Sir G. Grey to a similar effoct, and he sheuld at the proper time move a motion placing on record the colony's appreciation of tho services rendered to it by the right honourable gentleman. He then moved that a new writ, bu .isaued for an. election. Captain RUSSELL seconded the Motion, which wao agreed to, . The- Hon. Mr SEDDON said instructions had been issued for the preparation of rolls, •which would take at least a week, and it would be therefore probably a week before the writ was issued for a fresh election. 08 thought it righ,t to .make this statement so that both sides should have a fair chance. .Captain RUSSELL• doubted whether the Premier was acting within tho law in postponing the issue of the writ in this manner.
