ST.JOHN AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION.

. . • o A meeting of the newly-formed Earensbcurne branch of the Sfe. John Ambulance Association was held in the looal Council Chambers on Tuesday evening, Hr W. Barclay presiding. The election of officers for the branch first took place, and resulted as follows :—Chairman, Mr W. Barclay; secretary and treasurer, Mr It. M'Culloch; committee—Mißß Stathaoa, and Messrs H. M'Culloch, Gale, and B. Holler. The BecreSary of the centre was present, and gave some iuf ormation in regard to tho regulations of the association, &p. It was stated that sufficient names had been handed in to form both male and female classes, whioh will becommenced as soon as the Central Committee can arrange for lecturers. The womeu's fkst-aid evening class was commenced by Dr Brown at the Young Women's Christian Association Rooms yaeterday. Thera was again a great demand tor tickets, a number having to be refused. Dr Brown delivered the first lecture as laid down in the Sfc, John Association syllabus — embracing a general description of tha human body, &c: Miss J. B. Mackie in class secretary. We are desired to draw attention to the rule of the association whiuh provid»s thai candidates must attend four out of the five lecturas iv order to be dicibleto sit for the examination. ' Yesterday alternoou Dr Gloss gave the second of hia course of first-aid lectures to women, taking " Hemorrhage" as his subject, The lecturer describsd the various kinds of bleedings,, anil gave practical illustrations of the methods of arresting same, both by the application of tourniquet and digital pressure. The nexc lecture will b« upon " Fracture.1?." At the Central Fire Brigade station Dr Smith, last evening, delivered tho third 'lecture to tho men's class. The instruction was duvoted to "Fractures," the sign.i bsing explained and also the first aid treatment to bs rendered in Buch accidents, including the applicatiou of fplmts or other restraining apparatus. Some practical work followed the lecture. The members attending the class have n-ceived an invitation to be present at the monthly practice of the Ambulance Corps on Tuesday liext, when au oppurtnuity for practical woik will bs given thim. Arrangements for the formation of a women's first aid class at Mopgiel are in progress, and a commencement will probubly be made at au early date. Dr AUau has consented to act as lecturer. At Balclulha, on Friday last, Dr Fleming commenced a couisa of lectures to women. A men's class is also being arranged.
