THAT RATIONAL DRESS REFORM TO THE EDITOR.

Sib,—Speaking, about that cbstnme - which. some people seem to , consider very genteel, stylish, and becoming, termed the "rational dress reform," I should like to say & word <m the matter as it seems to meet my eye. Now, Sir, I think that it is a very good thiag in one sense of mind, and only one—viz., for the extreme cold, wintry weather, with a good . skirt covering. Otherwise, I think that ft is simply absurd. A year or so ago people used to laugh and jeer at a young lady who used to wear a starched and ironed linen white shirt front, collar, and tie. No doubt it was a bit queer. But nowadays we have come to a still more queerigh nutshell to crack. New that this " neat and genteel" costume has come into vogue or fashion, it is simply a disgrace to mankind. One must feel highly prided in going for a day's outing with his little wife, who insists that it must look nice and tasty, just because it is the "fashion." Well,; Sir, my opinion is, and no doubt it will meet a few more of your readers, that it is almost a matter of a month or two when it wiE be a hard task to be able to distinguish " whether she is a male or female." Such was an expression made by an old lady in Cumberland street a few days past. Now, Sir, when things have come to this, I think that it is high time that the men gave up th6ir style of dressing and took someone else's place in the feshion world. Mind you, Sir, this dress is not out of place for ths cycling world, as I thick that it is a great inconvenience for th<r lady rider to have her skirt; dragging and flapping about her legs. ■ Hoping that I have not intruded on youc space, I .will now bring my note to a close, hoping that ifc will reach further.—l am, &c., ..-. Dnnedin, May 8. Disgustbd.
