After investigation 33 male and 10 female passengers and 26 members of the crew were assisted by the Auekland_ committee. Ifc is now suggested that t!_e Auckland committee should vote £150 (including the special contributions named) of the fund for the late Mrs M'Douald's -family. The sub-committee recommends that £10 be granted to the aged parents living afc Otshuhn of a young man lest in the wrack. This will leave oiily two cases to be dealt with— two widows residing at Auckland. In the case of a widow with four children, tbe committee I recommends the appropriation of £350 from tee Auckland fund to be added to tht £200 from Wellington and invested ia the purchase of a bouse. In the case of fche other widow, who has only one child, the committee recommends that £300 be handed to the Public Trustee to bs paid fco the widow at, say, 25a a week for two years and 10s for so long thereaftsr as the money will allow. Including the vote from Wellington there is a balance of £1062 17s. The committee recommends its d;spo->al as follows -.—For Mrs Veal and family, £550 ; Mrs Croucher and child, £300; ag _d couple at Otahuhu, £10; Mrs M'Donald's family. £150; total, £1015; leaving a balance ef £52 17s. Aster the preparation of the necessary deeds ifc is expected this balance will be reduced to £37. The statement of accounts showed the total receipts by the Auckland committee to ba ,£1127 Is. 9d, and expenditure £561 16s 9_. leaving a balance of £862 17s. Thii., with £200 voted by the Wellington committee for Mrs I Veal, gives £1062 17s. Ths report was adopted ■and the grants approved. Ifc was resolved that I after the payment of all claims and charges the j balance be handed over to the fund now being I raised for the widows and children of the two I JLouris recently drowned at Onehunga.
