SHIPPING SUMMARY.

This summary represents shipping events of the period commencii-g April 15 and ending May 12, both dates inclusive. STATISTICAL, FOREIGN, ETC. During the period represented here, shipping matters, considering the lateness of fche season, have beeu fairly brisk, the arrivals from all ports being 45 vessels, representing 65^353 tons register, and tho departures 49 vessels, with a total of 63,625 tons. Last month, the arrivals I were 47 vessels, with a total of 71,932 tons, and j the departures 49 vessels, representing a total I of 72,568 tons.

The arrivals from oversea or foreign ports this month have been limited to four vessels, with a total of 16,778 tons register; while, on the other hand, the departures have been five vessels, representing a total of 17,287 tons. Last month the arrivals were eight vessels, with 26,613 tons register, and the departures six vessels, with a total of 23,717 tons. •

The. first arrival during fche month from oversea was the magnificent R.M.S. Gothic; of 7730 ton., Captain Kidley, R.N.R., from London, via intermediate ports, which reached Port Chalmers on April 25. She was followed on the same evening by fche clipper .barque Jerfalcon, of 287 tons, Captain Murdoch, from fche Maiden islands. .

The North American barque K-ieF. Troop, of 1125 tons, Captain Smith, wifch a full general car4o, from New York, arrived at Port Chalmers on May 3, after an excellent; passage of 97 days, and the list of oversea arrivals was completed on the 9fch inst. by the advent of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's magnificent new cargo steamer Aotea, of 5623 tons, Captain M'Dougal, from London, via Northern ports.

The first vessel to leave Port Chalmers this month for overseas was the New Zealand Shipping Company's ship Turakiua, Captain T. Hamann, which sailed for London on April 20, taking the following cargo-.—1467 balea wool, 386 casks tallow, 7 do pelts, 17 bags horns and bone, and 18,949 carcases frozen mutton. '
