John Jones, concerned in the Newton riot on Saturday night week, was fined £2 or a month for resisting Constable' Lowther ; for obscene language he was sentenced to two months' imprisonment, and on a third.charge of assaulting a woman he received the option of a fine of 50s or one month, the sentences of imprisonment to run concurrently with each other and with the term accused was at present serving of two , months for being drunk and disorderly.

Napier, May-13. At the Police Court this morning Arthur Newman, a remittance:man,, chargsd with attempted suicide at the Provincial Hotel,: was ordered to pay costs and be bound over to keep the peace. The case excited considerable attention owing to Bamford, another remittance man, having died from excessive drinking in the samo hotel a few days ago.
