The world had realised that an endnring alliance with Russia was a guarantee of peace. ■ Af tsr tho campaign in Madagascar I was over, it was intended to make the island a real colony, and they would offer their yonng men a chance to convert it into a new France. The London Chronicle's Roman correspondent says the Pope has retreated from his first position, and is now advising the -Trench clergy to submit to the taxation.
