The Dames of Messrs A. J. Mundella (exPresident of the Board of Trade) and G. J. Shaw-Lefevre (President of the ■ Local Government Board) are mentioned in connection with the Speakership of the House of Commons.
The Daily News favours Mr L. H. Courtnev, M.P. for the Bodmin Division of Cornwall (ex-Chairman of Committees), for the vacancy. It ia stated that Mr Montague Nelson (chairman of Nelson Bros.) will bo the Conservative candidate for the Warwick and Leamington seat in the Hoijse of Commons when vacated by Speaker Peel
March 12. The Speaker, tha Bight Hon. A. W. Peel, ■will renign at Easter. Sir W. V. Harcourt will deliver the Badgst spseck after Easter. Tha Australian Customs Bill has passed the Honse of Commons.
Earl Grey, in reply to a question, said the Egyptian and British spheres in Africa between them covered the whole Nile waterway.
