FLOODS IN AUSTRALIA.

Owing to the floods beyond Newcastle, railway communication with Queensland is interrupted. Heavy easterly gales are raging aloeg the ooasf, and are accompanied by exceptionally heavy rain.

It is feared in tbe Newcastle district that there will ba a repetition of the floods of 1893. The northern rivers are rising with alarming rapidity, and boats are bsiDg prepared in expectation of heavy floods. Most of the farms in West Maitland district are already inundated.

Brisbane, January 22. Heavy raitis have fallen here and ia the surrounding country. The Upper Brisbane river is flood«d, and the low-lying psrts of the town are submerged. Six inches fell in the last two days.. No serious eifects, however, are anticipated.
