THE WOOL SALES.

Messrs Wright, Sthphenson, and Co. report as follows :—"We held our opening sale for this deMon at the Oddfellows' Hali, Rattray street, on Thursday afternoon. There was a good muster of buyers, both local and foreign, about the same number as in past years beiag in attendance. Competition was in every respect satisfactory ; but the bidding stopped all too soon, and values (excepting in the cuss of locks and piecss) were woefully disappointing, so much so that although we had prepared our clients for reduced prices, and although they had modified their ideas considerably, we were compelled to withdraV juat about one-third of our catalogue of IOBS bales, the reserves of the passed-ia lots being for the most part from id to £d par lb higher than buyers appeared able to give. Compared with last year's clip, the condition of this season's was, we think, generally speaking, much the same—if anything, it was a shade heavier and better grown. Agkncy Company (Limited) report haviuc held The; l-first sale for this season at th« Oddfellows' Hall, ftattray street, on Thursday, 20th iust., when there was a very full attendance of buyers, who operated with a moderate amount of spirit up to" certain levels, according to the various difscriptions; but, as anticipated, the.™ levels, doubtless in sympathy with the lower prices prevailing at all other centres, we are sorry to report, are for fine b.-.lfbred and crossbred, lid to 21 per lb lower than a,t the same time last year, other sorts in proportion, with perhaps the exception of inferior sorts and pieces, also looks, which did not suffer quite so heavily. The greatest difference is shown in medium to best wools. Scoured and washed had no demand of any consequence, beiag saleable only at prices vury much below cost. We catalogued 1359 bales, of which we sold about the half, the balance not reaching value.l]. Ti-iE Farmers' Agsncy Company (Limited) report:—We htM our first sale ;of this seasons clip of wool on Thilftdny. The catalogue offered made up a total of about 8090 bales. The attendance of buyers was as large as usual, and there was a good gathering of farmers and others interested. Biddfeg was fairly brisk up to a point, which we regret w-.is fully Id to ljd per lb below prices ruling at the first cale of last season, ilas is perhaps what wus geDerr.lly expected, considering the unsatisfactory state of trade in the manufacturing districts both at Home and abroad and as shippers and speculators at this end have also had a bad time, their transactions of the last two seasons showing heavy losses. Our catalogue comprised 618 bales of greasy wools—the bulk croasbreds and halfbreds from lib* interior, i.hcse were mostly off colour and in most cases esrtuy, the latter being but little sought after aiirx were sold at low rates. Merinos, too, \7era very vjw, and were nil disposed of at quotations. Pieces, bellies, and locks were in brisk request, and were almost up to last year's rates in many cases f indeed on the average tbn sale for these sorts was satisfwtory. We look forward to a better selection of wools being offered at our next sale, winch will take place on January 10, 1835.
