GAS.
1 . TO THE EDITOB. Sib, —Mr Fish has given himself away over the jfas question. Some time »go a requisition signed by a, numbsr of ratepayers was presented 'to the City Council respectfully asking foe a reduction ia tha price of gas from 7s 6d to 5a per thousand. The request was Dot entertained, as Hr Fish said it would not pay to soil gas for lighting at 5s per thousand. Now he says it pays about 30 per cent, at ss. How much does it pay at 7b 6d ? about 85 per cent. Is it just , that gas consuming ratepayers should pay 7s 6d ! and allow the council to make thousands of pounds from the gas to put into the municipal account. Why not make each account pay its own way. The Auckland Gas Company sell at 5s 6d, and pay splendid dividends. Now, il either of the proposed mayors promise a redao- ! tion of price to, say, 6a a thousand, gas cow i Burners will support him,—l am, &c., Dunedin, October 29. Cheap Gas.
