THE LOCAL DEBTS OF THE COLONIES.
The local indebtedness of the principal Australasian colonies is stated by Mr Coghl&n in his "Seven Colonies of Australasia" as under :—
Bufc of these amounts, in New South Wales £5,418,851 has been found by the (Jovernmer.t, and is included in the public debs ; In Victoria £4,392,837 has been found by the Government; in Queensland tbo entire £1,418,025 has besn firovided by the State; in New Zealand the Government has ouly found £213,800, though it has guaranteed a further amount; and iv TiSGrnttuin only £54,200 was provided out of Governmsnt loans.
