The body found in on unfrequented paddock of a farm at Mangere has been identified by Mrs Baker, of Auckland, as that of her father, Patrick Fitzgerald, missing since the 13th met. j It is conjectured he must have wandered away to the country, lost his way, and\lain down and died of exhaustion and exposure. He wa3 64----years of a-se, an army pensioner, having be- ; longed to the Artillery. He was getting slightily I imbecile. Gisbokne, October 29. William Brennsn was found dead in a whare np,ar Karakara. Tho post mortem revealed signs | of strychnine poisoning, and a bottle with strychnine crystals wag foarid by the side of the deceased. The jury returned a verdict _of poisoning, but whether by accident or design there was no evidence to show. Wellington, Ootober 29. Mr Robert Morton, whose body was found floating in the harbonr yesterday, was a wellknown resident, having for the last 25 years taught schools in the Wellington provincial district. He was very near-sighted, and ifc is supposed that whilst walking on the wharf he fell over into the harbour. He was somewhat dispirited lataly owing to financial troubles, bur, showed no symptoms which would cause anxieiy. The death is announced of Mrs Charles Howe, sn old settler, who came to Wellington 53 years ago. Chiustchu!!CH, October 29. Last n!.»ht Ditiiel Matthew Gibson, aged 15, dropped dead in Colombo i-treet. Deceased had been subject to fainting fits, but it was thought that ha had grown out oE tbem. Invehcabgitx, October 29. _ A sad accident happened at the Bluff this afternoon. The steamer Taiori wss in port working grain, and Joseph Tall, » hatchraan at the forward hatch, was walking up tho deck skid behind a sliug of grain when it ia supposed his toot caught in the lashings which keep the skid fast to the combing of the hatchway. He was precipitated into the vessel's hold. Ihe unfortunate man struck a beam in his descent and foil on the floor of the steamer, receiving terrible injuries. Dr Torrance was speedily in attendance and had tho sufferer removed to the railway sfcaii.-n, whence he was conveyed to Inveraargill Hospital, whero it was found that hu had received a compound i'r&ctare of the skull. Tail ia a married man with one child, and late inquiries to-night show that he is still unconscious, and that small hopes are entertained o£ his recovery.
