MR BALLANCE'S DYING WISH.
(Per United Pbess Association.) Napier, August 7. With reference to Sir Robert Stout's statement at Wanganui on Saturday last, Mr F. C. Fulton writes to the Hawke's Bay Herald 4a follows:—" On the 15th March 1893 I travelled in the train from Pnlmerston to Wellington. The Hun. John Ballance was in bsd in a private compartment, but hearing I was on the train aent for me, and we conversed on various subjects for more than an hour. I expressed my regret at his state of health, and said I was sure if he went back to work it would kill him, and urged him to retire at once. I forget whether he or I said, 'There is only one man fit to take the place, and that is Sir Kofeert Stout.' I know we were quite agreed upon the subject, for I afterwards said, 'Your mantle will descend on Stout, and I hope tbab, instead of a fiery chariot, when I return from England I shall find your health restored, and that you wili bless ma for the good advice I have given you.' Mrs Ballanca was present and, I think, overheard our conversation."
