Perceval arranged for an interview with the Secretary for tbe Colonies on the subject o" tbe New Zealand Government's proposal to take over Samoa. In his communication to Lord Kipon he urged that New Zealand's trade with Samoa exceeds L 20.000 per annum, and that German residents would welcome any chaDge which would restore confidence, April 21. Lord Ripon intends to refer the proposals of the New Zealand Government re Samoa to the Cabinet. In the House of Commons Sir E. Grey, Under-secretary for Foreign Affairs, declared that New Zealand's proposal re Samoa appeared inconsistent with the provision of the Bjrlin Act. April 25. The proposal of the New Zealand Government for the annexation of Samoa has been referred to the Foreign Office. Beklin, April 24. The Kreuzer Zeltung maintains that the interest of Germany in Samoa still overweighs that of all other oountries put together, and her national prestige demands that tbe claims cf 1887 shall again be advanced. The National Zeitung opposes the New Zealand demand for the annexation of Samoa, and refuses to accept Sir Robert Stout's assertion that Samoa desires British rulo. Hobaijt, April 25. The Premier has replied to Mr Seddon's message re the annexation of Simoa stating that ho has instructed tho Agent-general for the colony to give cordial support to New Zealand's application to the Imperial Government respecting Samoa, but to urge undivided control rather that coutrol on behalf of the treaty Powers, which may be unsatisfactory in practice. The Agent-general is also instructed to co-operate with the other Agents-general on tbe subject.

Wkluncstok, April 25. The Premier has received telegrams from the Premiers of Victoria and South Australia approving of tho action of the Government re Samoa. The former advises him to press for full control, on the ground that the Islands in the Western Pacific ought to be under the control of the colonies. Mr Patterson promises to instruct the Agcnt-gonoral to support the proposal.
