BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETINGS.
SOUTH DUNEDIN. The ordinary meeting of the South Dunedin Council, held last evening, was attended by the Mayor (Mr E. Osborne), and Crs Marlow, Baker, M'Key, Smith, Holley, Fiddis, Scott, and Fisher. Mr James Taylor) the returning officer, wrote asking for the use of the Council Chambers as a booth in which to tstke a licensing committee and local option poll on Wednesday, March 21.—Granted. Mr H. P. Kennedy, secretary to the South Dunedin Fire Brigade, applied for leave of !: absence for six men to enable them to attend the annual demonstration at Napier on March .5,6, 7, and 8. Each member would find a ! trained substitute during his absence. Mr ■ Kennedy also asked if the council would grant , a Bmall donation to enable the brigade to send I a team.—Leave of absence was granted, and it : was resolved to grant a donation of £5. i The Finance Committee recommended that I the municipal- account amounting to £36 163 7d i be passed tor payment. It was reported that the ■ balances of the several accounts were as folt low:—Municipal account, £2965 2s 3d (debit); i water account, £525 19s 5d (debit); sanitary - account, £53 14s 9d (credit) ; sanitary account, t £136 13a 5d (credit).—Adopted. j Tenders for the removal and delivery of road a metal and footpath material and the general 1 carting during the next 12 months were res ceived from Messrs W. Meade, P. Fitzpatrick, ■ and J. Jones. After deliberation, the tender of c Mr Jones was accepted, it being the lowest. !i It was decided to appoint Mr John Davidson, f dayman, to the position of water inspector, s Cr Scott gave notice that at next meeting he would move that Mr Davidson be reappeinted B working inspector.
