Sir, —Mr Braithwaite's statement that Matthow Arnold was "not a Christian" is almost enough to mako the author of " Litera* We and Dogma" turn in his grave, It is true that Arnold was far from orthodox, but all his theological work had for its aim the dot once of jvhat he oonooived to be true Christianity, and fcho whole temper of his mind \va3 Christian, Bven "churchy."
