CHARITABLE AID IN CHRISTCHURCH.

Christchtjkch, March 23.

At a meeting of the Charitable Aid Board to-day, a motion to discontinue supplying alcoholic medical comforts to recipients of charitable aid was negatived by six votes to four. The mover gave notice that he would propose the motion again at next meeting. The estimates for the ensuing year were adopted. The total expenses are estimated at L 13.850. The available surplus and income amount to L 2986, leaving L 10.864 to be raised. Half of that sum (L 5432) is to be raised by contributions from local bodies. The sum raised for the year now ending was L 6056, or L 642 more than is now demanded.

The Hospital Board this afternoon passed the estimates for the ensuing year. The expenditure has been estimated at LBBSO and the balance available at L 1526, leaving L 7324 required. Half of that-sum'(L3662) was allocated to be raised from the contributing local bodies.
