OTAGO - RUGBY FOOTBALL UNION.

I The General Committee of the O R F.U. met : at.the-.City Hotel last night; Mr D. A. Jolly, i the president of the Cromwell Club, and a vice- ; president of the union, occupying the chair. l The committee unanimously decided to refuse their consent to the Alhambra Club accepting il medals from Mr Toomey. A communication i from Mr L. A. Cuff in reference to the proposed visit of a team of athletes to England, and soliciting monetary assistance from the udiod, was read. Several members of the commi cc expressed a very decided opinion that the letter should have come through the local affiliated body to the NZ.A.A. Association, and it was unanimously decided that until such usual courtesy was observed the committee could not in any way consider Mr Cuff's proposals. Thn hon. treasurer reported that suitable arrangements had been completed for the entertainment of the Wellington team. It was decided that, arrangements having been made for the various matches, the union regrets its Jnak""? *° comply with the request of the Canterbury Union to play 'the interprovincial match on August 29. The Wellington Union wired advising that the representative team would not arrive till Tuesday, in consequence of the Terawera being delayed at Wellington. In order that the public might have every opportunity of witnessing the contest with Wellington, it was resolved to interview his Worship the Mayor with a view to obtaining a partial half-holiday from 2 o'clock on Wednesday.
