FOOTBALL.
Our Palmerstoß correspondent writes:—" The football match Palmerston v. Waikouaiti w»B started here on Saturday afternoon, and a worse day for the contest could not have been experienced—heavy squalls of wine), rain, hail, and snow prevailing. The gamo was stubbornly contested by both sides from the start, the home team being forced down several tiroes; but after warming to the work they scored two tries in quick succession, neither of which were converted. After the last try the Waikouaiti captain (Scott) withdrew hi 3 team from the field, not being satisfied with the referee's decision in allowing it. IS is much to bo regretted that ho allowed his feelings to carry him so far as to rsf use to play the game out, which he could easily hwe done under protest sd<3 referred tho disputed point to the Rugby Union for their decision, thereby preventing any after feelings in the matter. Messrs Paterson and Longtou were tbo umpires, and Blr J. Gtraut referee." Tho match Rossal v. Butnside was played at Walton Park on Saturday, and resulted in a win for Roesal by 8 points to 1. For the losers, Scott, W. Morlaud, aud Campbell played a good game; while Johnston and Bl'Crorie played the best game for the Rossal.
