(Pun United Pbess Association.) Auckland, May 30. Dr Murray, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Maitland, who is in ill health, has left Auckland for Te Aroha. Ho arrived in this city on his way to San Francisco, but was too ill to proceed. He is accompanied by the Rev. Fr. Tran. An illuminated address signed by all the volunteer officers of Auckland district, waa piesented to-day to Lieutenant-colonel Shepherd, who recently commanded the district. The presentation was made by Lieutenant-colooel Dignan at the drillshed in tho presence of a large number of officers and men. The county rate collector for Dargaville, Mr F. L. Beart, has been arreßted on a charge of embezzling £40 belonging to the county. He was brought before Blr J. M. Dargaville and Mr F. Norton, J.P.'s.atJthe Dargaville Police Court to-day, when the cbbo waß remanded till Tuesday. Bail was refused. Two other charges are pending against accused. Beart was greatly respected in the district, and much sympathy is felt for his wife and children. Wellington, May 30. At a meeting of the Committee of Privileges of the New Zealand Wesleyan Church.it was unanimously decided that steps be taken to secure an amending act to model the deed of the church, so as to enable ministers to remain five years in a circuit instead of threo as is the law at present.
