Auckland, May 14.

A well-known settler of Tauranga, Mr J. Chadwick, died last night of bronchitis. He came out to the colony over 50 years ago, and engaged in the cattle trade between Australia and New Zealand, afterwards taking military contracts. At the time of his death he was proprietor of the Tauranga Hotel.

Cheistchubch, May 14.

This morning the body of William M'Lennan, a farmer at Halkett, was found on the Halkett road. His neck was broken, and his horse and cart were standing by. He drove from Addington market last night, nnd is supposed to have met with an accident on the road.

A man named William Page, living alone near French Farm, Akaroa, was found dead in his whare yesterday.

Mr George Morton, a farmer, of Waihao, Canterbury, was nearly gored to death on Wednesday morning by a young bull. He was in the act of opening one of the farm gates, and the animal attacking him tossed him about and gored him in a fearful manner. An employe tan to assist Mr Morton, and had great difficulty in getting the animal away. The sufferer was found to be unconscious and was carried home, Dr Barclay being at once sent for. On examination the doctor found Mr Morton had several severe wounds with minor bruises all over the body. Mr Morton is at present in a very critical condition, and fears are entertained for his recovery.
