THE MIDLAND RAILWAY DEVIATION.

(Pbb United Pbess Association.)

Qbeymouth, May 14,

A meeting of the Railway Committee this afternoon, largely attended, passed a resolution to the following effect: —"Having considered the Hon. Mr Seddon's different telegrams re the deviation difficulty, we are of opinion that the only objection the Minister has to recommend assent is that the county council has not yet complied with the terms of the act of 1890 by entering into a contract with the Midland Company to widen the road, bridge, and culverts from Pouanamu to Lake Brunner, and providing a Bteamer. The meeting requests hb Worship the Mayor to telegraph to the Hon. Mr Scddon and ask whether he will advise the Governor to give his assent immediately to the deviation, without waiting for Parliament to'meet, if the county council comply with the terms of the act and Mr Seddon's letter to the council dated 2nd May last." A resolution thanking the' Cliristchureh Kailway League for assistance and co-operation was also carried unanimously.
