DROWNING FATALITY AT BRIGHTON.

A young lad named John Young, aged 19, son of William Francis Young, of Brighton, waa accidentally drowned in a oreek near Kock Farm, Brighton, at about i o'clook on Thursday afternoon. Deceased was in the employ of Mr Duncan M'Coll, farmer, and on the afternoon of the day in question, in company with Duncan M'lntosh (15), Donald M'lntosh (13), and Andrew Hunter (15), set ont from the farm with the intention of shooting rabbita. When they arrived at a oreek about 400 yards away from the farm house, Hunter and Duncan M'lntosh crossed, but deceased and Donald M'lntosh walked along the bank of the stream until they reached a spot where thero waa a good depth of water. Deceased then said to M'lntosh, "You hold my gun and I will jump across here, and I will be able to say I was the erst to jump it." M'lntosh endeavoured to dissuade deceased from doing this, and pointed out that the stream waa deep in that place. Deceased, however, did not heed the warniog, but jumped across, and on landing on the other bank, fell back into the water. He immediataly sank, but came to the surface after a few seconds. Before the party could do anything to save the unfortunate young man, he Bank again, and never rose afterwards. The body was recovered in about an hour and a-half by a man named Donßld M'Coll, who had been informed of the accident shortly after it occurred, but was unable to find the body. The bank of the stream where deceased jumped across was 9ft high, and there was about 10ft of water. An inqnest will be held at noon to-day at Brighton.
