SIXPENNY CLOTHING CLUB.

Tha annual report of the Invercargill Sixpenny Clothing Club, recently oirculatedi states :—

The committee of the Sixpenny Clothing Club have now the pleasure of submitting to subscribers and friends their Bixth annual report, and in doing so desire to thank those by whose liberality it has been maintained throughout the year in a creditable state of efficiency. They aho wish, in passing, to recognise with many thanks the valuable services of the collectors, to whose continuous and unwearied labours the present position of the club is largely dv?. The committee have also to express their hearty thanks for the several anonymous donations of £1 sterling each, which have materially supplemented the exertions of the collectors, as well as for eevoral valuable contributions.of useful articles of clothing received from Messrs Thomson and Beattie and Price and Bulleid, both of whom have again assisted with their usual liberality. At thesametime, the committee are glad to say that they have been able with 1 tho funds at their disposal to relieve a large amount of real distress, and to bring some small comfort to many homes where poverty and want are never absent, especially in the case o£ widowß left unprovided for with largo families of young ohildren, of whom there is a considerable number always on the booka of the club, and who may be regarded as a permanent charge on the institution. So far as the .committee are able to judge, no undeserving cases are entertained, and the greatest care is always taken to inquire into every eaae before help is given. During the past year the following amounts have been expended j say, on blanketß and clothing, £96 8s lOd; on boots, £39 18s Id; and on printing, 10s j making a total of £138 16s lid. The usual balance sheet is annexed.
