FOOTBALL.

A team representing the employes of the Daily Times and Witness Gompany journeyed to Waitati on Saturday, and defeated the local club by 3 points to 2. The game was a hard and fast one, and a warm sun in a clear sky made it also a hot one. Throughout the Times had the best of the game, play being mostly in the Waitsti's twenty-five, and had it not been for the excellent kicking and ruuniug of A. Taiaroa the visitors must have increased their score. Harris, in the first spell, obtained a try for the Times, while Davidson, making a long run nearly the whole length of the field with barely any opposition, aid likewise for Waitati. The kicks at goal were failures. During the second half of the game Taiaroa secured a try for Waitati, and Mimi and Boltou each scored for the Times, the latter securing his try just before the call of time. Again the kicks at goal were failures. Taken all through the game was a good one, and excellent play was shown for Waitati by Basket, Taiaroa, Davidson, and Souness, and for the Times by Harris, BoltoD, Brookes, and Smeaton (backs), and Ballantyne, Roberts, Minn, Campbell, and Dundon (forwards). The visitors were afterwards entertained at dinner st the Saratoga Hotel.

The Pacific played a scratch match at Tahuua Park, Probable First Fifteen v. the Club, and after a fast and open game the Fifteen -at the call of time had placed 9 points (two goals and three tries) to their credit, while the Club score was 3 points (a goal, potted by Parsons), For tho Fifteen, W. King (2), J. King (2), and Sullivan (1) scored tries, two of which were converted into goals. On the Fifteen's side the following also played well—Richardson, M'Kelvey, Butler, P. Drumm, and Watson; and for the Club, Lister (2), Oole, Parsons, Hardy, Brady, and Smith.

ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.

Tue Northern Club was'visited by a team from the Southern Club on Saturday, but instead of playing ft club match teams were picked and captained respectively by Messrs Gardner (Northern) and Leslie (Southern). The players have benefited greatly by the previous Saturday's practice, and from the kick-off the game promised to be fast and kaenly contested. The ball was kept travelling from goal to goal, sml any miskick by the backs was likely to result in a downfall to either goal, for the forwards, who were keeping their positions admirably, wore well on tho alerfc. Carver and Duncan (fcrwarde) and Nicholson (half back) took the play well into Leslie's ground, and gave Wilson and Moncrieff some trouble, but Euuciman in goal was equal to clearing his charge. Leslie changed the veuve o[ play to the opposition's ground by a well-directed kick, but Grigg and Walker soon returned the phy, and Eunciman h id to kick vvel 1 to again clear his charge. Laing aad M'lnto.-b. on Leslie's right made a nice passing run and crossed to the left, but their companions were not forward, and the ball went over the goal line. The perseverance of Gardner's team was deserving of reward, and Runeiman allowed them to score from a shot which he could have more easily handled than kicked, as there was a spin on the ball, and in endeavouring to stop it it glided from his foot through. Shortly before half-time Carver got past Wilson, and" bel'ora Moncrieff could intercept him made a long shot cleverly beyond the custodian's reach. The second half was very much a icpetitiou of tho first. Leslie's team worked hard and well, and Campbell was called upon to use his hands repeatedly, while Gardner and Walker rnaiitained a determined defence. A piece of exciting play in front of Gardner's goal resulted in its downfall by a swift shot from Macleod, who keeps place well and played most consistently throughout. Leslie's team worked keenly io make scores even, bnt at call of time a keenly fought and pleasant game resulted in favour of Gardner's team by two goals to one. For the winners Carver, M'DonalcJ, Nicholson, Walker, and Gardner played well, and for the losers M'Leod, Laing, Crawford, Leslie, Moncrieff, and Runcimsn. Mr Gibbs (Southsrn) gave every satisfaction as umpire.

At a aieeting of the secretaries of the various clubs in the district, held on Wednesday evening, a card of fixtures for inter-club matches for the season was arranged.
