There has been a slight shrinkage of £250,000 in the deposits at call, but an increase of £320,000 in the deposits at interest. The Bank of Now Zea!au<i deposits under both heads only went down £143,000. The advances are about £190,000 in excess of those in June; the most; unfnvourable feature is thut the "other advances," i.e., overdrafts, have increased by £344,000, while the discounts have declined by £147,000. Notts show a small recovery, Inii still there is no sigu of any great activity in business. The general result as shown by thu excess of assefs over liabilities is tbat tlifi banks have to the extent of about £100,000 in the six months increased thtir outside obligations, end this sum ia a mere trifle.
