UNIVERSITY COUNCIL.
A meeting of the University Council «as held ye»» terday afternoon, when there wero present: Dr Stuart (chancellor), Mr Fulton, M.H.H., Mr Allen M.H.K., Dr Hockon, Dr Burns, Messrs Stanford j' M'leau, Cargiil, and liussell. ' ' PBOFBSSBBIAL ASSISTANTS. Mr Stanforp reported on behalf of the committee appointed at last meeting that he had written to the ITofessonal Board asking them to 6U(<eest soinpmethod by which the wants of professors for assistants could be supplied without additional expense. He hud received in reply a letter from the Board which concluded with the embodiment of n resolution recommending the council to appoint to Professor bhand a .mechanical assistant for the wintersession. The committee recommended that this, course be adopted. I'he report was adopted. LAW MCTHSKS.. The committee on this subject reported recommending that two law lecturers should be appointed at the end of each session for the ensuinp session, and that tie subjects on which they should lecture be determined by the council; that the subjects for j tho ensuing Bession be constitutional law and the I lav? of property; and that applications be invited irom persons willing to lecture on these subjects 1 ; ■ Heport agreed to.
