The Tamasese party in Samoa, according to news received, have appointed Malieota as king and Tamasese as vice-king at the same time, though the.Mataafa party elected Mataafa temporary king and Malietoa vice-king. All, however, are awaiting tho arrival of the commissions from the Great Powers, and until they come nothing can be decided. It is said, however, that there can be no doubt that the lately exiled Malietoa will be the choice of tho people as king.

The man Kaye, arrested at Wellington, and charged with embezzling moneys belonging to M'Bride, pleaded guilty. The Probation Act was not applied, but the bench ordered the prisoner to make restitution of the amount embezzled (£2 10s) and pay the cost, or go to prison for one month, with hard labour.

The properties and buildings of the Now Zealand Frozen Meat and Storage Company were bought in by the mortgagee. Tho principal lot, comprising the chief assets of the company, was knocked down for £25,000.

Napiee, November 12. Last night Mr Dillon addressed a meeting on tho Home Rule question. Considering the high charges made for admission there was a large attendance. Mr Dillon spoke in moderate language. At tho end a resolution expressing sympathy with the cause of Home Rule was carried.

Messrs J. R. Rees and Co.'s tender for three sections of the Midland railway, in the Grey Valley, amounting to 26 miles, at £103,851 19s Bd, has been accepted by the company. Some necessary alterations are being made at Springfield and have delayed letting the contract on this end.

(Fjhmi Oub Own Correspondents.) Auckland, November 12. The Rev. T. Spurgeon leaves on Thursday by the Te Anau, for Dunedin, to attend the Baptist Union. The police authorities are tracing up a good clue as to the perpetrators of the asaftstida outrage at the Unionist meeting. Twenty pounds reward has been offered for the detection and conviction of the perpetrator or perpetrators. In the case of H. R. Jury, a bankrupt—an ex-candidate for Parliamentary honours—the registrar refused to make an order on bankrupt to pay any sum to his creditors, as there was not sufficient evidence of his ability to do so. Thirty-nine applications have been received for the post of medical superintendent of the district hospital. Six names have been selected for ballot at the next meeting. It is stated that some of the applicants are of high professional reputation. The Hospital Board seem determined to carry out their policy despite the protests of the honorary medical staff of the hospital.
