RIFLE SHOOTING. TO THE EDITOR.
SIE, —With reference to shooting match between Morgan and Cable's team and U.S.S. Company's employes that took place at Port Chalmers on Saturday, the 7th, a report of which I see in your issue to-day, your report Kives an erroneous impression to the pablic. Permit me a few words in explanation. Ist. This match was fired (as agreed) 10 men a-side, not nine. But as one of Morgan and Cable's team could not find the target, and therefore did not score, your report omits him and also one of the U.S.S. Company's team who scored 30. The correct scores are:— U.S.S. Company... ... ... 458 Morgan and Cable ... ... 440 Majority for U.S.S. Company . . 18 Sir, I cannot close without taking notice of foot note in your report to tho effect that Morgan and Cable's team's score would have been considerably increased but for the absence of one or two crack shots. As a matter of fact Morgan and Cable's team had to take one emergency man, while the winning team had to pick up three at the last minute. I am sorry to trouble you with this letter, but this is the second time the report has been erroneous. In the former match the U.S.S. Company's team won the match by 11 points. ■. Trusting you will fiud space for this.—l am, &c, , Port Chalmers, September 10. Fair Plat.
