ASSISTANCE FROM BOOTMAKERS.
A meeting of the Dunedin .Operative Bootmakers' Union was held in Milton Hall, Stuart street, lust night, Mr S. Brown occupying the chair. It was agreed—(l)" That the sum of £25 be voted towards the London dock strikers' fund, and (2) that the union approved of the efforts put forth by the strikers to benefit their position, and appreciated the peaceable manner in which the strike had been conducted, and the measure of success that had attended thtj efforts of the strikers. Same days previous to the calling of the above meeting, the Dunedin branch of the Typographical Association issued subscription lists amongst the trade with the view of raising funds for the relief of the distress caused by the strike in London, and a good sum of money has already been oollected. This and any further sums'that may come to hand will be handed over to the treasurer of any fund that may be initiated with the above object. At a public meeting at Greymouth, to raise money to assist the dock strikers, collectors were appointed to canvass the town, and the wharf, quarry, and railway hands. All subscriptions are to be ia by Wednesday night. The Brunner miners and public are sending home £100.
