UNIVERSITY COUNCIL.

The usual monthly meeting of tho Otago University Council was held yesterday afternoon. Present—The Chancellor (Rev. Dr Stuart), Dr Hockeu, Messrs M'Lean, Stanford, and Fulton, M.H.R. TJIE MACAKDREW SCHOLARSHIP. The following regulations for the Macandrew Scholarship, established by public subscription to the late Mr James Macaudrew, member oj the council and one of the founders of the university, were adopted :— 1. The subject of examination for the scholarship ehall be political economy, mid the competition shall take place at the annual examination in that subject at the close of eneh session. 2. Candidates ahull give notice In writing to (lie registrar H day? i;efyre the examination of their intention to compete lor the scholarship. 3. The scholarship shall be open to undergraduates who shall have completed, or who at the time of competition shall coruph-te, their third year's ■1. i'lio tenure of the scholarship sliall he one ' 5. In default of candidates of sufficient merit tlie Professorial Board may withhold the scholarship. CLINICAL INSTRUCTION. Dr Hocken presented a report from himself and Dr Burns recommending that regular'attendauce at clinical instruction at a recognised hospital bo declared necessary for a student applying for the degree of M.B.—The report was adopted. CSEXEKAL, Dr Coughtrey wrote forwarding, for the reference library of the university, a bound copy of two addresses on University aud Medical Education, delivered respectively in 1875 and ISS7.
