Mr Council then, in order to test the fueling of the meeting, submitted the following motion:—" That the women of Auckland present at this meeting, having heard Mr Council's views upon women's suffrage, aro willing to accept him as their representative in I'arliament." The ladies wore asked to hold up their hands.ir they considered Mr Council a tit and proper person to represent them in I'arliament. Hub not one hand was held up. Not to be baulked, Mr Council said he would put it another way, and he would consider all those who did not hold up their hands favourable to himself. The motion was then put, and amid great laughter two ladies were observed holding their umbrellas up in the air. The chairman (Kov. Mr Kprott) declared the motion carried unanimously. About 180 ladies were present. GOVERNMENT HOUSE, AUCKLAND. When Colonel Hatiltain was in Wellington as a member of the ISoundary Commission he saw his Excellency the Governor, and in the course of conversation referred to the face that Auckland now saw nothing of him. His Excellency replied that he liked Auckland and neighbourhood very much, but, it was quite impossible, for him to come here while Government House remained in such a dreadful insanitary state. His Excellency said hu would like to come to Auckland, but he could not bring his family here to be poisoned with typhoid from the drains in Government House. The Herald Bays this is a matter which ought to be remedied at once.
